Over the summer term there have been a number of Mini Tennis Red Competitions that have been taking place across the partnership.
In Fylde schools took part in 2 heats. The first at Lytham Tennis Club, which was lead by club pro Luci Caine, and the other heat at St Annes Tennis Club, which was led by club pro Bruce Garner. The final was held at St Annes Tennis Club on the 24th June in the blazing summer sun. Our Lady Star Of The Sea, King Edward & Queen Mary Junior School, St Peters Lytham and St Josephs Kirkham battled it out to take the title and progress to the Spar Lancashire Youth Games. In the round robin event all the schools started really well setting an impressive standard. Once all the scores had been tallied up by Bruce Garner and his support team, Our Lady Star Of The Sea were confirmed as the winners. (Please see picture below with the trophy).
The Wyre event was hosted by club pro James Handforth at Moorland Tennis Club. Again, another sunny day where 7 schools took part to win the event and progress as the Wyre representative to the county finals. All the players were keen to show their new skills which they had learnt over the previous weeks from the schools coaching that James had delivered. In the end, St Johns Poulton lifted the winner’s trophy and progressed to the county round. Please see picture below of James and the winning team.
A big thank you to Luci Caine, Bruce Garner and James Handforth for their time and efforts in delivering the schools tennis coaching programme throughout Wyre & Fylde and for arranging the partnership heats and finals to be hosted at their respective clubs.
